The origin of fried chicken in the southern states of America has been traced to Scottish and West African cuisine. Scottish fried chicken was cooked in fat (though unseasoned) while West African fried chicken was seasoned (but battered and cooked in palm oil).
Cooking fried chicken in your own kitchen has never been so easy. The recipe involves all the basic steps in cooking fried chicken, such as coating the chicken, and frying. We season the fried chicken with salt, pepper and garlic powder. However, only a minimal amount of time needed for this recipe.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup corn starch
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp Chinese 5 Spices
- cooking oil
Directions:
- Create slits on the chicken drumsticks by slicing all the way to the bone.
- Combine all the ingredients in a bowl to make the coating for the chicken: flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, garlic powder and the Chinese Five Spices.
- Mix all the ingredients well.
- Then coat the chicken with dry mixture thoroughly. Be sure the skin in completely coated.
- Get a deep pot for frying and fill it with two cups of cooking oil. Bring to a boil over a medium heat.
- Carefully place each piece of chicken in the boiling oil. Fry for ten to fifteen minutes.
- After the chicken is cooked place on a plate covered with paper towels which will absorb the excess oil and fat.
- Serve with your favorite side dish such as rice or potatoes. Enjoy!
